Explore the amazing and diverse climate zones and ecosystems of Hawaii in this full day tour; experience first-hand the incredible and amazing phenomena of seeing an erupting volcano. Start your excursion by traveling between Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea two of the biggest volcanoes found in the world. The area between these two mountains is known by the locals as The Saddle; due to its unique soil and location is it home of a few of the rarest animals and plants in the whole world. Did you know that if you measure the Mauna Kea from is oceanic base it is even taller than Mount Everest? When measured from the oceanic base, this magnificent mountain is over 33,000 feet tall (10,000 meters)!
Before continuing east towards the area of Hilo you will stop at Mauna Kea State Park for lunch. After this you will do another stop, this time at the Kaumana Cave where you guide will take you to explore this natural wonder: a lava tube. What once carried molten lava rock to the ocean from Mauna Loa’s upper rift zones is now a perfect adventure below ground! After leaving the Mauna Loa you will rise to the summit of Kilauea towards Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Be guided through the main hidden gems and spots of this amazing International Biosphere Preserve and Heritage Site. You will get to explore the steam vents, summit caldera, native forests and cinder fields as this are all considered “must see”. After exploring the park you should be taken to Kalapana where you will be witness of the raw power of lava as it goes into the see during sunset. The tour will be tailored depending on the volcanic activity each day; you should be taken to the active areas of the volcanoes; as legally and safe as possible.
Finish this spectacular in enjoying dinner in the center of Pahoa, Hawaii’s second largest city. Pahoa is a beautiful town that has kept the rustic feeling of an old plantation. Did you know that “Pahoa” means, in the Hawaiian language, dagger or knife? What are you waiting for? Enjoy this magnificent full day tour!
